Welcome to The Mountain View Los Altos High School District
The Mountain View Los Altos High School District (MVLA) is located approximately 15 miles north of San Jose and 40 miles south of San Francisco. Our two comprehensive high schools and three alternative programs serve the richly diverse communities of Mountain View, Los Altos and Los Altos Hills. These communities are home to a variety of high tech firms such as Google, Microsoft, Intuit and Synopsys, as well as NASA-Ames. Outstanding universities such as Stanford and San Jose State border our district to the north and south respectively. The vibrant economy, diverse culture of the area and a strong heritage of educational excellence support our two comprehensive high schools that are consistently ranked in the top 500 high schools nationally.
Our district serves a student population of 3,700 high school students, with 96 percent of our graduates matriculating to college. Approximately fifty percent of our teaching staff hold advanced degrees. In 2011, MVLA boasted 115 National Merit distinguished students. Both Mountain View and Los Altos High Schools are ranked as 10 out of 10 on the California Academic Performance Index (API). Alta Vista High School is consistently ranked among the top continuation schools statewide. Our Freestyle Academy of Communication Arts and Technology has a nationwide reputation for excellence. The MVLA Adult School serves a diverse population of over 8,000 students annually. All of our schools have received the maximum six-year accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Our district's core values of quality, continuous improvement, personal and caring environment, teamwork and empowerment guide our efforts to educate our students.
